Rustic Boys Bedroom - Part 1 - The vision

We recently renovated and decorated my sons’ bedroom. My boys are 19 and
17 years old so I wanted a more masculine and mature look for their room.
The design started as a sketch on paper and a vision in my head of what could be.
 




My husband and I found and installed these beautiful pecan colored laminated floors from Home Depot.

 


 
I found this 'before' picture online. It's a picture from the realtors that sold us our home.
I really need to get better at taking before shots.
We purchased our English Tutor home about two years ago and the rooms didn't have lighting, with the exception of the kitchen and bathrooms. We installed some lighting in their room and to save money we did it ourselves.

My home office makeover

For months our office was used as storage but I envisioned a space where we could come, rest and be inspired. I needed a spot to house all my books and my husbands antique finds. I thought carefully about maximizing our room space, so we went with a floor to ceiling bookshelf that my husband built. I love the results.

In the corner of the office I wanted a reading space. Eventually we want to replace this chair with a compact leather recliner but for now this works just fine.

After months of decorating I love the results. It's a space where we can read, create, dream and pray. 

Tall boy dresser - Wedding Blessing

My son had been dating his girlfriend a couple years when she dared to ask me for it. Yeah she asked for a tall boy dresser I had sitting in my basement waiting to be painted and restored. Cynthia my son's then girlfriend asked me, "If I marry Julian one day, can that be our wedding gift?" I know what your thinking, "What? (insert mouth open) The audacity of her?" However, I have always admired her for her daring and forward approach. It has gotten her in some trouble but nonetheless I thought this girl is audacious, I like that about her. My son is a bit of an introvert and has a passive personality and she is spunky and outspoken, they compliment each other well.  I laughed off her request for months but she was quite persistent. I finally said jokingly, "OK, you can have it if you promise me at least two grandbabies." The joke stuck, the tall boy dresser has been my bartering tool for grandchildren or perhaps a dowry of sorts. (I'm kidding people).

The tall boy was so pretty that I have had plenty of offers for it and people have admired it for years but I had it on reserve for them. Cynthia and my oldest son Julian did get engaged and this year I made good on my promise.

The tall boy sat patiently for 4 years in my basement waiting for their wedding shower. I rolled up my sleeves and went to work on this absolutely stunning  tall boy with its gentle curves and delicate small drawers. I have yet to see anything like it yet I was honored to restore it for my son and my new daughter-in-law.

I couldn't be happier with where the dresser ended up. It now sits in their little quaint apartment where two honeymooners gush over each other everyday.

Maddox - Mighty Warrior Nursery

I helped design my friends son's nursery. 

The theme came from this one verse found in the Psalms: like arrows in the hand of a might warrior. 

So we went with arrows and the nursery turned out beautiful. 

The color scheme: gray, navy blue, baby blue, cream, gold and a touch of red.

The octopus table

My sister found this beauty of a table at a local antique market about 1 year ago. I recently found the pics and thought I would share them with you. 

This table looks like an octopus to me but its actually a parlor table. 

Here is what the table looked like before we finished it.

This was the first project I did with my sister Sonnet.

Duck Egg Blue Sideboard / Buffet

Saturday mornings are my favorite day of the week because its the day my husband and I go searching for antique pieces. I found this sideboard at an estate sale. I was looking for a buffet for my friends dining room. So when I spotted this beauty my heart skipped a beat.

I painted it in ASCP Duck Egg Blue . The details of this piece are beautiful.
I wanted to make sure I highlighted every detail in this buffet

I stained the top of this buffet in a Mahogony Minwax. Painted it in ASCP and lightly distressed the areas that I wanted to accentuate.  

I then coated it in a dark wax and finished it off with clear wax.

Isn't it precious?!?
